First Blush

Spring is here! The redbud on the hill is in bloom and the agarita have just started opening their buds. This is the agarita or wild Currant. Agarita is a rounded shrub with beautiful gray-green, holly-like foliage and clusters of fragrant yellow flowers from February through April. The fruit that follows is a bright red berry that is a magnet for birds and small mammals and which makes a delicious jelly. There's a chance for rain today and tomorrow morning, and we could sure use it.
