"Closing Time...."

From the band Semisonic, the lyrics are apropos for today...
"Closing time - every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end."
Today we officially became proud owners of Il Poggio Secco.

Punch List

Worked like dogs all weekend. Now we're down to the punchlist and countdown for closing on Tuesday. It's looking real purty, don't ya think? We still have alot to do after we close; like landscaping, cleaning, and sealing all the tile, counterops, and grout. So, no party favors just yet. But it is starting to look finished anyway! :)

In da hood...

Our kitchen was designed around two elements, the view and the vent hood. You may have seen the antique we found earlier in this blog . This particular day however was the day that the idea became reality. We took this antique fireplace chimney and had it fabricated into a new vent hood for our kitchen. It's old copper with a nice aged patina, but the inside was fabricated with new stainless steel insert and the fan blower in the ceiling above. We only got one shot to cut it and get it hung right... and as you can see it worked!! Whew! There is a nice little rail around it to hang utensils on as well. No matter where we are in the kitchen, we are not far away from an awesome view, both inside and out. Steel guys came to pop up the gate and our railing outside the master bedroom.

The show must go on?? Yup....

In the midst of "vacation" to work on the final stages of the house construction, Jimbo has a call from his agent for another round of Netflix spots.... uh.... OK!! Since we are living in the space where Jimbo's studio will be, he opts for the next best sounding space... THE CLOSET! ISDN phone technology connects Jim to Portland Oregon, and the client in LA. See, who says technology doesn't pay! ha! After the house, hard wood on studio floor and move in the gear which has been in storage for two years now... can't wait!

Lights, Camera, Action!!

Rounding home plate now... Jim took the 7 days off of work to manage the last few days of construction. Lights are going in and almost complete, all of the ceiling fans are up (very nice), plugs, switches... whew...... this is why there hasn't been many posts lately, sorry 'bout that. Monday the trim guy come back to do "lock out" and knob installation. Jim finishes grout on the remaining items in the house today, the iron and AC/Heating guy comes out today to finish up. If all goes as planned this coming week, we should close on the permanent loan on Friday. Then we can move in and move on to another project..... kidding.

Coming along nicely...

The tile in all bathrooms is finished with the exception of grout in the 1st floor shower, the mosaic border was installed on the kitchen backplash today and the medallion on the porch was grouted, Jim is intalling the backsplash for the breakfast bar while Junior works on the nearby niche. Tomorrow, Jim will install tile in the laundry room while Peg cleans up. The painting/staining begins on Monday.
