Third floor (roof) Column start - NO RAIN TODAY!

Finally, a few days of no rain so the framers are finishing up their major frame package. Looks like few more days and the house gets wrapped and dried in. Problem on the stairs going to third floor today, but we'll get through that and move on. Cheers! jimbo

Uuffffff.. finally off and running again

Sorry folks, we've been on a hiatus of late. Our framer couldn't get to us last week, and we just returned from a family cruise to Alaska, where we celebrated my father's 70th birthday... It was also a good thing we didn't start last week on the framing as from what we were told it rained pretty much all week again! Crazy!

So first drop of lumber hits today and the framers crew hits the ground running tomorrow.
Today to prep for this, Stanely, the guy installing our septic, is doing some last minute site prep and smoothing out the road to make it easy to get the delivery trucks up to the site. Woo hoo! We'll have some Sticks going up in the air tomorrow!!! Sweet!

More pics to come.

Rich Man, Pour Man.. FINALLY!

Yesssssss!!!! Finally a break in the clouds, pass inspection, an hour latter, we are spilling concrete! The guys busted their hump till about 9pm tonight to get this done. Tomorrow they come back to to take forms off. It's incredible that they brought the pump truck and all the concrete trucks up the driveway. It was quite a spectacle. (oh.. and I got a sunburn! That's a good thing since it's been raining FOR THE PAST TWO MONTH'S!) The sunsets out here are spectactular. The one above looks like Charton Heston will come bursting out of the cloud with a couple of tablets! Poof! Ciao! jimbo

Prelude to the Pour

Rosario's crew makes final adjustments to the forms and Jim wrestles in some last minute conduit.

July 4th, 2007. The old-timers remember a stretch of weather like this about 80 years ago. But if you look at the record books, the Texas Hill Country has a long history of flood events occurring in the months of May and June. Read about them on the NOAA website. Also visit the LCRA website to read some interesting facts about the effect of the recent rainfall on the Highland Lakes system.

Here's something new....

Whomever is responsible for the repeated rain dances, or the one that incessantly keeps washing their car... PLEASE STOP! For the love of all that's good in the world, we didn't need another 1.5 inches of rain this afternoon!!!

Today electrician came today to drop their below ground items, three inch conduit....mmmmmmmm plastic.... and even grounded the slab steel. Nice. Tomorrow, Rosario and his team come back for one last pass at fixing the last form issues, and if it stops raining we should pour on Friday or Monday. So.. stop that dancin' and car washin'. (do that all you want once we get dried in. ;) ciao! jk

Life is grate

Jim is demonstrating proper use of the virtual sofa. Rosario's team put in the brick ledges and framed out for the porch, patios, outdoor shower, and water heater.

Here's a shot of our build site looking south along Hwy 71 West, just north of the Pedernales River bridge. And sunset framed by the porta-pottty. Pretty!
